Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka rightly called “The pearl of the Indian Ocean” is a stunningly beautiful moderately sized island near the Southern tip of India, known for many specialties from historical time. Sri Lanka has a documented history that spans over 3000 years, the undocumented history span of more than 6000 years passing the King Rawana era.

Its geographic location and deep harbors made it great strategic importance from the ancient Silk Road, even today the same strategic importance is sharpening on daily basis.

In the 19th century, Sri Lanka became a plantation history having exported good quality cinnamon, coconut, rubber and tea. Sri Lanka now exports more value added products given a boost to coconut products. Coconut kernel products, coir products and coco peat are leading exported in more value added form

Coir Fibre and Coco peat (Coir fibre pith)

Coir fibre and coco peat are 100% NATURAL, 100% ECO-FRIENDLY, 100% RENEWABLE.

Two major products namely COIR FIBRE and COCO PEAT are extracted from the fibrous mesocarp or middle layer of the coconut fruit (Cocos nucifera)

An abundant crop of coconut approximately 2.7 b nuts for the base for these two products. Coir fibre is extracted by soaking whole husk in water for about 6 weeks to loosen the fibre, then combed out sundried further processed according to the requirement of the end product. The other product generated while combing is coco peat. Coconut husk is cut into specific sizes too without being combed according to the demand

There are many sub-grades of coir fibre and coco peat.

In general coir fibre is available in following forms
  • Coir mattress fibre (short and soft fibre)
  • Coir mixed fibre (medium sized fibre)
  • Coir bristle fibre in1-tie, 2-tie, 3-tie(long and strong fibre)
Coco peat is processed and available in following forms
  • Brown coco peat (low EC and high EC with higher expansion)
  • Black coco peat (Low EC and with lower expansion)
  • Washed coco peat (low EC higher expansion)
  • Buffered coco peat (Chemically washed to obtain low EC)

Above basic products are used as raw material to produce wonderful products to make the world greener and greener.
